Culprits

edited and conceived by Richard Brewer and Gary Phillips

Some stories are all about the crime. These linked stories are about the maelstrom of what happens afterward. A hard-bitten crew of professional thieves pull off the score of their lives, coming away with seven million in cash. Like any heist there are some unforeseen complications — they don’t get away without a few bodies dropping. Still they have the swag. Enough to change their lives, make new identities, start fresh. But that’s when the real trouble begins…

The linked anthology served as source material for the Culprits miniseries (see trailer, above) that streamed in the States on Hulu. To say the filmed version was different than the prose effort is an understatement. But hey, both are pretty dang good. And the audiobook version we produced faithfully adapts the written version.

Datura Books is republishing the anthology in December.

“Fans of Donald Westlake’s caper novels will find a lot to like.”

Publishers Weekly

“CULPRITS… represents a first for me. It was the first anthology I’d read that reads like a novel. The contributing authors were so attentive to the presented narrative, that each individual story fed into the whole.”
